What is the Intel Integrated Performance Primitives? The Intel IPP library consists of two components. A highly optimized set of libraries for doing primitive operations that are very compute intensive. This includes the fundamental algorithms of many audio and video codecs. The second part is a set of sample libraries that implement the various codecs binary encoding using the optimized libraries. Further information may be obtained from the Intel web site. Where do I get it?Binary installers and full source code are available at Source Forge. Can I sell a product using it?If you are selling something, then you must be a commercial user. IPP Codecs is only free for non-commercial use. Please contact Stonevoice for obtaining a commercial license. What platforms are supported? At present only Windows and Linux. We are mainly constrained by the IPP distribution as to which Linux distributions are supported, however all major and recent one will be. Note that there is How do I build it?Details are in the ReadMe.txt file contained in the download. There are some notes, however: We do not provide the Intel code required to build the system, you must get that from Intel directly. You may need to buy a license from Intel if you wish to redistribute software based on your build of IPP Codecs. You do not require a license if you only wish to use the binary distribution available here. How can I contribute? As the IPP Codecs Plug-in is Open Source, anyone can contribute. However, as with offerings like MySQL, due to our dual licensing we require that contributors assign copyright to the original authors. The contributors licensing agreement can be viewed here. What does all that contributor legalese mean?In short, whatever you contribute can be used by us in the commercial version. Any contribution will still be available as Open Source for non-commercial use, nothing is lost by the contributor. There is more, but that is the fundamental point of the agreement. |
